Jesus against the resistance John the Baptist decided to mingle with sinners in the waters of the Jordan and be baptized, because he loved humanity so much that he wanted to identify with the worst, with those who rejected the official religion of Israel, because they could not obey Jewish laws and norms.
These represent in humanity those who have done the most harm, those whom no one likes, those thugs and thievesto those who suffer, to those thieves and blasphemersthe persecutors of the good, the corrupt, those who do evil.
To those farthest from God. Christ is eternally compassionate, the one who loves sinners and wants to save them, merciful who forgives more than seventy times seven, who loves endlessly.
So he goes to Jordan and mixes with the worst. And that’s it Christ chooses sinners. That is why he dies on the cross, to pay the ransom for our salvation. Of course, Jesus chooses the poor, as we often hear. But first choose humanity, to save us all. Choose sinners, those who suffer the most, and among them are the poor. God so loved the world that he gave his son for our salvation. We were enemies of God. He was the first to kiss us, he was looking for us, like a good shepherd for a lost sheep, and he didn’t rest until he found us.
At that moment on the Jordan, John resists, he does not want to, because he knows that Jesus is the lamb of God, completely holy, and he does not want him to mix with sinners, also because he is not considered worthy of baptism. But Jesus he insists, because there he will give a very concrete and evident sign that he has come for sinners. They will discover something profound about God’s heart, his love, his infinite compassion, his divine mercy. The Lord loves absolutely to everyone, including those who treated him very badly, blasphemers, heretics, those who hate God, those who persecute Christians, the most terrible criminals.
Love for God is unconditional, has no limits, Seek the conversion of all so that one day you may receive them into heaven and enjoy it eternally.
Jesus’ baptism in Jordan has its own meaning transcendental for humanity. It is a very clear gesture of God’s revelation that is manifested through Jesus Christ: that Jesus, without being a sinner, identifies himself with all sinners, becomes one with them, to bear the sin of all and take us to heaven.
