Optimizing budgets for a sustainable future

In the midst of the critical economic reality we are facing, it is necessary to carefully analyze our state budget. The claim about cuts, although it sounds reasonable in principle, It has to go beyond a simple snippet indiscriminately. True efficiency lies in strategic management that guarantees the country’s sustainability and well-being.

One of the most significant mistakes of this government in budget cuts is that it reduced investments instead focus on administrative costs and government operations. I agree that, considering the financial crisis, we have to be careful, but it is crucial where and how we will make these cuts, identify and strategically adjust expenditures that do not contribute to the sustainable development of the country.

A proposal for public-private partnerships (PPP) with entities such as ETESA, Tocumen Airport and IDAAN is worth considering. This would not only alleviate budgetary pressures but could also increase operational efficiency and encourage private investments in key sectors. However, any initiative of this kind must be managed transparently and carefully to avoid possible long-term problems.

Also, the proposal for evaluating duplicated functions is relevant. The existence of the Agricultural Development Bank in parallel with the National Bank, as well as the Mortgage Bank with the Savings Bank, are clear examples of redundancy. Optimization of resources through consolidation of functions i elimination of duplication It is a measure that could create significant savings without compromising efficiency.

Selling government assets is another avenue to explore. However, it is crucial to ensure that this property, which is ultimately the heritage of the people, does not fall into the hands of those who neglect their social function. required careful planning and impact assessment before making such important decisions.

It is essential to redistribute funds towards critical areas such as the Cancer Institute, education and water management. Prioritizing the basic needs of the population is a moral obligation and a long-term investment in the health and prosperity of our country.

In conclusion, optimizing our budget is not just a scissors exercise, but a carefully planned strategy to build a sustainable future. The next Government must commit to advocating responsible measures that ensure a balance between financial efficiency and the well-being of our community. The path to stability and prosperity begins with informed and conscious decisions.

I want to acknowledge the invaluable influence of Professor Eric Molino in these thoughts drawn from a recent interview. His ideas significantly enriched this perspective on budget optimization for the benefit of our community.
