Woke debate: “Think about your personal sexism”

This is interesting. Because the discussion is mainly led by people like you, who indignantly claim that something is being imposed or prohibited on them. Although there is no corresponding law.

Woke literally means awake. This refers to awareness of racist, sexist and social discrimination. The term was coined in the US in the 1930s. It has become widespread since 2014 as a result of protests against police violence. We don’t need to discuss the fact that racism, sexism and other forms of disadvantage exist. The people pointing this out have every reason to do so – and a simple, legitimate desire: they are asking that the language be designed to reach as many people as possible. Namely, through the use of the gender star, which is still called that, although the gender colon has been used for a long time.

There is no law that forces you to change your gender. You can write and speak as you please, and you will not have the slightest reason to feel bullied or blackmailed by anyone. The question arises as to why you are doing this at all. You can also just ignore “the whole stirring up discussion”.

American sociologist Robin DiAngelo coined the term “white fragility”, that is, the vulnerability of whites to racism: when the topic is raised, white people (who are ultimately responsible for it) react with resentment, dismissiveness and anger. The same thing is probably happening here: you come into contact with the topic of discrimination, suspect that it might be you, and don’t want to hear about it.
