On April 19, 2023, the Federal Council decided to create a State Secretariat for Security in the DDPS. This is intended to strengthen the civil security sector in the DDPS and respond flexibly to important changes in security policy. The Federal Council has elected Ambassador Jean-Daniel Rouch as the new Secretary of State, who will be responsible for the security of Switzerland.

It’s just a shame that he clearly became a security risk himself, so he voluntarily left federal service. The kicker is that this new Secretariat of State will also be responsible for vetting the personal security of federal employees.

Federal Council without concept

The Federal Council’s slogan “security policy in a holistic perspective” is misleading. The Secretariat of State must analyze the security situation at national and international level together with the intelligence service of the Federal Federal Service and the responsible authorities of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Apparently, the Federal Council has not yet understood where the greatest threat to Swiss security comes from, namely illegal immigration. Record numbers of young people are flocking to Switzerland. Many of them have criminal intentions, others are welfare claimants, and some are even potential terrorists. The State Secretariat for Migration also grants refugee status to Afghan women and thus the right to automatic refugee status.
Family reunification.

Unfortunately, the Federal Council did not involve the State Secretariat for Migration, which is actually responsible for determining who can and cannot enter Switzerland. NDB and Fedpol are permitted to take advantage of this policy. Instead of spending millions on an ineffective Secretariat of State, these funds should be used to secure borders, return asylum seekers to the border and give cantons money to increase the visible police presence in hotspots.

The Federal Council openly tolerates imported crime and forces the cantons to support a state of justice, welfare and therapy worth billions of dollars. He makes the population believe that they have done something for security by creating a new secretariat of state. The only security he has created is for the federal employees who will be working there. This is a guarantee of employment until retirement.
