A call for unity and advocacy: A farmer’s perspective

In the past days, all citizens had the opportunity to listen to the words of v President of the Republic during a public act in the province of Los Santos.

In his speech, the President invited all of us who are involved in the work of the Choir agricultural sectorto proudly and courageously defend the achievements of domestic producers under his leadership administration. As a third generation farmer, I am moved to share my perspective on this striking statement.

Although it is true that some sectors of society have expressed dissatisfaction, causing some tension in of the population, I consider crucial that we take the president’s call seriously, especially those of us who dedicate ourselves to this complex task. Unlike other urban occupations, the words of the head of state are supported by concrete facts that are unquestionable.

I invite colleagues from the primary sector to separate ideological and political differences at this time. Although every individual has the right to openly express his political preferences, I think so peasant, trade union and agricultural organizations they should refrain from revealing their electoral preferences.

Let’s understand that we are subject to fluctuations of governments in power and therefore we must guard maturely legal security that protects us. It should be remembered that we have a law that determines state policy in relation to the agricultural sector, and in the coming months there is an election period.

It is crucial that we prepare, put forward proposals and raise our voices to show that we will not allow the gains we have made to be jeopardized.

Despite the fact that our agriculture is not completely unified, the time has come to we divest ourselves of all personal interest or individual that may be harmful to collective interests.

At a moment like this, unity and responsibility is our greatest strength.
