The number of electric vehicles is growing and growing. The number of charging stations should reflect this development. But not only the quantity and their distribution is important, but also prices or pricing. Fair pricing always occurs when there is healthy competition between suppliers. This requires comparability and transparency – until now, electronic charging stations lacked both.

Since the “big” expansion is yet to come, I want to take a moment to make suggestions for improvement. First of all, I am in favor of mandatory registration of public charging stations and their display in the public directory of charging stations. This ensures that customers always have a complete overview of the range and distribution of charging stations.

In my opinion, billing unification is also necessary – billing in kilowatt-hours would be a good idea. Additional fees are specified separately. Spontaneous charging at public stations should always be possible, even without contractual obligations or prior registration. Prices for impromptu charging should always be known before charging begins.

Last but not least, a price comparison app would be helpful. Integration into the TCS petrol price radar is possible.

Whether the number of electric vehicles in Switzerland will continue to grow so rapidly will largely depend on whether there are enough charging stations on the one hand and how convenient they are for customers on the other. Therefore, I advise the industry to carefully study and implement my recommendations.
