“Berner Platte” – new section of Sunday Blick: not a summer fairy tale

The Tuesday before last, a drugged young man—let’s call him a senior—showed up at a car dealership on the busy Zurich-Altstetten square. He threatens the owner and employees with a knife. This man came to Switzerland from an African country many years ago as part of a family reunion and should have been deported about three years ago because he had already committed several criminal offenses. However, the court refused to deport him because of family ties, since his mother naturalized here. After leaving the garage, Señor goes to the Migros branch opposite, where he beats the branch manager and leaves the store without paying. City policemen appear on the square and take the criminal into custody.

But just three (!) hours after the arrest, the Senor reappears in the auto repair shop, breaks shop windows and threatens the owner with death. He runs away and returns after a while. This time he destroys several used cars. The city police are on the scene and arrest Senor again. According to his ID, he is almost 18 years old. However, his age is almost certainly a fiction; Judging by his appearance, he may be much older. To be able to enjoy the family reunion, the señor probably reduced his age.

What do we learn from this?

We have claims at the federal level. The federal authorities allow the entry of so-called minors who only pretend to be minors, because in this case they are given special protection. Criminals are protected by weak authorities and courts. The police and judiciary are overwhelmed. Now we could point the finger at foreigners. But it would be wrong – all the victims that day were foreigners or Swiss with a migration background, who go about their daily work and pay taxes here. We must point the finger at those politicians and officials who look the other way, distort facts, violate laws and knowingly tolerate such conditions.
