Alan Arkinfamous actor who won Oscar 2007 for his work in Little Miss Sunshine, died at the age of 89 at his home in Carlsbad, California. The translator developed a career in Hollywood spanning almost 60 years, and was nominated four times for the statuette (1967, 1969, 2007 and 2013).
The actor’s sons, Adam, Matthew and Anthony confirmed his death in a statement sent to the magazine peoplereports Europa Press. “Our father was a uniquely talented force of nature, both as an artist and as a man. A beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, he was adored and will be missed,” read a letter shared by his family.
Arkin was an actor known for his characteristic dry humor, as well as his great talent for playing comedic and dramatic roles. The first two Academy Award nominations of his career came in the Best Actor category for his first two leading roles, The Russians are coming! (Norman Jewinson, 1966) i The heart is a lonely hunter (Robert Ellis Miller, 1967).
His first and only statuette would come in the category of best supporting actor for his hilarious and biting at the same time the endearing role of Grandpa Edwin Hoover in Little Miss Sunshine (Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris, 2006), a successful independent film in which he shared the screen with Steve Carrell, Toni Collette, Greg Kinnear and Paul Dano, among others.

This would give him his fourth nomination in an award-winning film Argot (Ben Affleck, 2012), in which he was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor in a film that won Best Picture, Adapted Screenplay and Editing at the 2013 ceremony.
A long history in which popular titles such as Edward Scissorhands (1990), Gattaca (1997), A rocket launcher (1991), Pair three (2008) or The Muppets (2011). Arkin also tried his hand at directing with Small murders 1971 with comedy fires for sale in 1977.
His last works were remake from Dumbowhich was released in cinemas in 2019. Spencer: Confidential2020 Netflix action film starring Mark Wahlberg and, also on this platform, The Kominsky method, the series starring Michael Douglas that earned Arkin two Emmy nominations. He also voiced a character Minions: The Origins of Gru and appeared in Robert Downey Sr., a documentary about Robert Downey Jr.’s father.
