‘Everything will be alright’ column on women in traditional marriages: Homesickness and Homesickness

class=”sc-29f61514-0 kHgAwW”>

Esty Williams (25) is an influencer and represents Tradwifes (Traditional Wives).
Ursula von ArxJournalist and book author

The good old values are back. About traditional marriage. But how was it once? For example, in the 1950s in Switzerland?

The man was the “head of the family” and could decide where to live. Hardly any wife worked outside the home, but if she did, the husband could fire her at will and dispose of her income. Marital rape is not a criminal offence.

Este Williams (25) lives in the US and longs for that time ago. She is a prominent face of the US-based Tradwives movement, which struggles to advocate, advertise and defend the “traditional wife”.

Mostly in floral plunging necklines, with stunning platinum blonde and wet glossy lips, Esty Williams presents her tips and days on Instagram or Tiktok that are filled with cleaning, cooking and beauty treatments. She doesn’t consider herself “oppressed” because she loves filling her husband’s lunch box with homemade pancakes. The fact that she never counted ironed shirts does not seem to her to be evidence of a disturbing submission to forced labor. Because she does everything on her own.

If she wants to buy something more than $100, she calls her husband and asks for permission, including on her own account: this is a sign of “respect,” says Esty Williams, insisting on her personality in her find: “I put my husband’s needs above mine. It fills me with satisfaction and my marriage with happiness.”

With her forgotten stories, her social media appearances, Estee Williams is the epitome of male fantasy. But it also resonates with many women, especially mothers, who sometimes work themselves into a nervous breakdown trying to balance family and career.

Trajan women flee the double burden of work and family and retire to their homes. You must be able to afford it. In Europe, the majority of wealthy young women are also choosing a different strategy, according to the latest heritage study from the Berlin Science Center (WZB). Children are no longer important to them. They prefer to retire for a quiet professional life than for a hectic household. Everything will be fine.

Ursula von Arx is glad that there are still many women who are hesitant to have children or a career, and instead struggle to share the double burden between their parents. Von Arx writes to Bleek every second Monday.
