Personal liability claims skyrocket during Corona

This can happen quickly and you accidentally hurt someone – the so-called personal liability damage. According to statistics released Wednesday by insurance company Axa, there were 28 percent more tenant claims in the 2020 and 2021 corona years than in previous years.

“Everyone, including the tenants, was at home more often. That inevitably led to more setbacks and damage to rentals,” explained Reto Leibundgut, Head of Claims Liability at Axa, the numbers show.

According to Axa, more than every second personal liability claim the insurance company has paid in the past five years is due to tenants in their rental apartments. Other common causes are third-party vehicle drivers, with 7 percent of the damage.

Fires and accidents in traffic and on ski slopes cost insurers the most money. In almost all of the most expensive cases, they were the reason for the check Axa had to pay.
