Swiss people like to monitor their health values with digital assistants like apps. They want to know if they’ve reached their goal of 10,000 steps a day, how many hours they slept, or how many calories they’ve consumed in the last 24 hours. This has been confirmed by studies and surveys by Digitec Galaxus.

The online retailer knows what it’s talking about because it makes money by selling smart fitness straps, smartwatches or sports watches.

Insurers have also explored the preventive healthcare business using smart assistants. Knowing very well that if you live a healthier life, you will have to pay less insurance benefits. And if you know from data how healthy the insured person is while traveling, you can tailor your offers accordingly.

Insurance rewards lifestyle

On the other hand, the insured people who take care of their health and document it in the digital environment should also benefit financially.

Health insurance company CSS got involved with fitness tracking early on. It made its first trials in 2015 and has been introducing a new health app since 2020. CSS advertises on its website as follows: “With the Active365 app, you are rewarded for a healthy lifestyle.”

what is the prize? First of all, CSS spokeswoman Sabine Betschart says: “Establishing a healthy lifestyle is the main benefit.” He then adds that “customers earn points for their activities and can redeem them for cash or redeem them in the ‘enjoy365’ health store.” Specifically, app users receive up to 600 francs per year.

At CSS, over 100,000 policyholders use the app – it’s been downloaded a total of 380,000 times since it was launched nearly three years ago.

It looks similar to the Swica health insurance company. He also got involved in fitness tracking early on. Spokesperson Silvia Schnidrig says about a third of all users automatically collect points in the Swica bonus program. Swica offers premium discounts or digital coupons for customers.
