In April, Swiss retailers notably recorded a 1.3 percent nominal decrease in their sales compared to the previous year. The seasonally adjusted nominal fell 2.0 percent from March, according to provisional results from the Federal Statistics Office (FSO).
BFS announced on Wednesday that, taking into account inflation, retail sales fell 3.7 percent year-on-year in real terms in April.
Adjusted for sales and public holiday effects, the retail sector excluding fuel stations, which was affected by the fluctuations in fuel prices, reported a 1.2 percent decrease in nominal sales in March compared to the previous year. There was even a 3.7 percent decrease in real terms.
Food, beverage and tobacco retail trade decreased by 4.8 percent in real terms, while sales in the non-food sector decreased by 2.8 percent in real terms.
