US space company Virgin Orbit shuts down after a failed rocket launch. This emerges from the statement made by British entrepreneur Richard Branson (72) from his California-based company.

Fixed assets will be sold to four buyers who win a tender. According to British broadcaster Sky News, most previous headquarters went to rival Rocket Lab USA.

The statement said the company, which was founded in 2017, has managed to “set significant milestones and make lasting contributions to the advancement of satellite launches in the US and UK”.

Virgin Orbit was instrumental in its attempt to launch the first satellite from UK soil earlier this year. An aircraft raised the launch vehicle to high altitude before launch. However, the mission failed. In April, the US filed for bankruptcy. (SDA)
