Switzerland’s wealthiest resident criticizes Switzerland for ‘mislabeling’

Billionaire Klaus-Michael Kühne joined the Lufthansa Group in the spring of 2022 and currently holds more than 17.5 percent of the shares.

Anyone flying a Swiss is usually willing to pay a higher price. The Swiss airline, owned by the German Lufthansa Group, is considered a first class airline and may apply the relevant prices. “I find this wrong and unacceptable because I prefer the original,” Klaus-Michael Kühne (85) said in an interview with “Manager-Magazine” a few weeks ago. Lufthansa has the best offer on long-distance routes, which I have great respect for. But when it competes with low-cost airlines, it dilutes the group.”

Kühne holds 17.5% of the Lufthansa Group

Kuehne is Switzerland’s wealthiest resident and majority owner of logistics service provider Kuehne + Nagel. The US magazine “Forbes” estimates his fortune at 35 billion francs. Part of that is in shares in the Lufthansa Group, of which Kühne is the largest shareholder with more than 17.5 percent.

The entrepreneur joined the group more than a year ago. His word has weight and he must use it. Even if he doesn’t openly admit it. “Lufthansa is a good company and well managed. “I will not interfere in the management’s business,” he said.

Lufthansa management faces headwinds

But his actions speak a different language. At the general meeting of the Lufthansa group, German manager Karl Gernandt (62) was elected to the supervisory board. Kühne’s man. And therefore, he must coordinate his actions with the billionaire. Lufthansa management is facing headwinds. Because Kühne is not a fan of the wide variety of brands from Europe’s largest airline.
