Zurich Airport receives a new concession in Brazil

Natal is the capital of the state of Rio Grande do Norte. The airport served approximately 2.3 million passengers in 2022 and currently has a passenger capacity of approximately 6.5 million passengers per year.

According to the announcement, the newly acquired Natal Airport best complements the existing portfolio of Flughafen Zürich AG in Brazil, which consists of majority holdings in Florianópolis, Vitória and Macaé, and enables synergies to be exploited.

The concession agreement is expected to be signed towards the end of 2023 and operating responsibility will be taken over at the beginning of 2024. Flughafen Zürich AG will then own 100 percent of the airport and operate it for 30 years.

According to Zurich Airport, no expansion investments will be required during the concession period and only minor renovation investments will be required. Upon the signing of the concession agreement, a one-off concession fee of approximately CHF 58 million will be paid. In addition, annual turnover tax must be paid from the fifth calendar year after conclusion of the contract.

Thanks to the new airport, Zurich Airport expects an additional contribution to its operating profit (EBITDA) in high single-digit millions in Swiss francs.

Flughafen Zürich AG currently operates outside Switzerland at eight airports in Latin America and other locations in Asia.
