In the canton of Zug, Swiss people can already pay their taxes with cryptocurrency. But now the limit was immediately raised: from 100,000 francs to 1.5 million francs. Heinz Tännler’s (SVP) finance department said Friday that this will facilitate access to digital payment instruments and meet the growing needs of the Zug population and companies.
Zug became the first canton to accept digital currencies to pay taxes in 2021. And this is used as well: The statement stated that about 150 transactions in Bitcoin and Ether cryptocurrencies have so far paid taxes in the amount of about two million francs.
Council Member Tännler says the increase in the border is “an important step into the digital future”. In the second half of the year, it will also be possible to pay taxes directly with cryptocurrencies via the QR code on the tax administration payment slips.
According to Dirk Klee, head of Bitcoin Suisse, the canton of Zug “has long been an important hub for the crypto industry.” (SDA/kae)
