There is a strike at all airports in Italy today. The march is expected to last 24 hours. Flights to Switzerland are also affected.

“A total of twelve return flights had to be cancelled, affecting destinations in Milan, Florence, Venice, Rome, Bologna and Naples,” said a Swiss spokesperson. Parent company Lufthansa also reports on its website that flights may be affected. Swiss is doing everything it can to offer suitable alternatives.

One plane to Venice and three flights to Rome still leave the runway today: “Switzerland uses larger short-haul aircraft than originally planned to offer more seating for rebooked passengers.” Swiss has already proactively contacted customers and rebooked if requested.

There’s a strike everywhere

Swiss also emphasizes that it understands the dissatisfaction of the affected passengers. “The vast majority of flights canceled this year are due to the large number of strikes in various European countries,” the spokesperson said. It’s not the first strike in Italy. Numerous walkouts took place in France and Germany as well.

In Italy, the Unione Sindacale di Base has called for a strike, according to the “abouttravel.ch” portal. Airport staff charge higher wages. However, at the same time, shift, safety and health systems need to be improved.
