The Mayor of Iseltwald, Peter Rubi, is taking further action against the tourist influx.

No one is used to this media scam in Iseltwald BE. The ensemble made national headlines in mid-April via a layup. Because of a Korean Netflix series, Iseltwald has been flooded with thousands of Korean guests for months. Koreans come, cross the pier, take a picture, and go home again. Mayor Peter Rubi reacted and installed turnstiles. Anyone who wants to board the pier now has to pay five francs.

On Tuesday, it was announced that the municipality took more precautions. Buses are now met by a security service as soon as they leave the highway. Anyone who does not register for the trip to Iseltwald and does not pay a fee of 50 francs will be expelled. Won’t this turn into complete chaos in the upcoming summer season?

So far not every car company has adhered to it

Mayor Peter Rubi spoke to Blick about turnstiles and other measures. “We’ve been in the field with staff since October to proactively inform tourism and auto companies.” Rubi emphasizes that his community has timely communicated that Iseltwald should be booked for 50 francs in the future. “These security services started two weeks ago.”

All is not well in Iseltwald yet. “Of course, it always happens that a car company doesn’t have a reservation,” says Rubi. “Then we have to drive them away and divert them to public transport.”

“Foreign tourists are used to paying”

The mayor points out that these measures are important to divert the flow of tourists. They want quality tourism,” he said. “The experience with the hubs has been consistently positive so far. The situation has calmed down. Five or six buses no longer come at the same time, but spread throughout the day.”

Currently, there are no more than two car companies on the site at the same time. Stress has also been reduced for tourists. “Foreign tourists are already accustomed to paying for such attractions,” says Rubi. “The lack of understanding among the Swiss is greater. But it also has to do with the fact that they don’t know about the available space in our community.
