For five years, as part of NRP 73, researchers have been investigating how the Swiss economy can become more sustainable. This was announced Tuesday by the Swiss National Science Foundation.
Researchers suggest a combination of voluntary initiatives and legal incentives. In the food industry, for example, switching from animal foods to plant-based foods has been shown to not only reduce environmental impact by 36 percent, but also improve health while reducing spending.
In the construction industry, researchers advocate a combination of resource-efficient construction and greater acceptance of smaller living spaces.
NRP 73 was launched by the Federal Council in mid-2016 with a total budget of CHF 20 million.
