A rapidly increasing threat has been observed in this region in recent months, Swisscom said on Monday. AI technologies have made hackers’ cyberattacks more efficient and dodge defenses better.

One reason for the increase is the ever-expanding public access to such AI tools, which have also made a “true evolutionary leap.” This includes the “Great Natural Language Model” ChatGPT. Using the AI ​​model designed as a text assistant, for example, it is possible to create personalized phishing emails that make such attacks harder to detect.

Experts at Swisscom assume that attack methods will increasingly converge in the future. For example, a language model AI such as ChatGPT can create more believable communication based on an existing email history, for example, to continue an email attack and link it to other attacks.

“With appropriate automation, targeted phishing campaigns can be created with fully personalized, contextual emails,” the report says. Therefore, in general, the level of knowledge required for attackers to perform sophisticated attacks is decreasing.

After all, it is said that the technology promises benefits for the other side as well. Therefore, experts also recommend using AI technologies to counter hacker attacks. With proper training in IT infrastructure, organizations can thus at least reduce the attack surface.
