Ticino investor Stefano Artioli from Lugano announced that he wants to invest hundreds of millions of francs in San Bernardino’s mountain village of Graubünden. He has since bought several historic houses and hotels in the village.
In the coming years, he wants to create a winter sports paradise from the open ski resort on the A13. Orphaned historic hotels should shine with new splendor, new accommodations should be built, refurbished cable cars and ski lifts should carry 1000 guests back to the slopes every day – that’s his idea.
Now comes the next good news for him. The city council unanimously approved the transfer of the land that will become the heart of the revitalized town of San Bernardino, a resort with a hotel complex and thermal baths.
Artioli calls his new company “San Bernardino Swiss Alps”. Comparing the pioneering work of Egyptian billionaire Samih Sawiris (66) with his project at Andermatt UR, Ticino dismissed the interview with one glance: “Our project is much smaller. It will cost between 200 and 300 million francs. One and a half billion went to Andermatt».
The transfer of ownership still requires the yes of Bündner Südtal’s voters. Voting is scheduled for June 18. (he)
