Inflation in the USA was 4.9 percent in April

Consumer prices in the US rose 4.9 percent compared to the same month last year, the US Department of Labor announced in Washington on Wednesday. This is the lowest increase since April 2021. Analysts had expected the inflation rate to stay at 5.0 percent the previous month.

Consumer prices rose 0.4 percent month-on-month in April. This happened in line with expectations. According to the ministry, the biggest share of the price increase was due to rents and used car prices. While fuel prices increased, other energy sources became cheaper. Food prices remained stable on a monthly basis.

There is a discount in the room

Core inflation fell from 5.6 percent to 5.5 percent. This rate does not include variable energy and food prices. According to economists, core inflation reflects the general price trend better than the general rate.

Inflation data is currently of particular interest, as it is of great importance to the monetary policy of the US Federal Reserve. The Federal Reserve recently raised the possibility of a pause in interest rates, but has not committed to it.
