In the mid-1990s, US artist Nicole Eisenman (58) participated in a group exhibition in which a younger generation explored feminist positions. The collaboration is called “Bad Girls” – despite Eisenman’s displeasure. Because even if it is seen as cheeky, it is never bad or disrespectful.

The New York-based painter developed this label through his comic book, commercial, and TV aesthetic, as well as his neo-realistic style, where he often references older artists. You can see van Gogh buying an ear at last year’s “Heads, Kisses, Fights” exhibition at the Aargauer Kunsthaus.

For the Ringier Annual Report 2022, Eisenman created a limited and numbered bronze edition in the form of a vase, which he calls “The Herb Holder.” The vase has a face and a flower ledge at the top. “It’s an idea that comes out of your head like Athena,” says the artist.

And publisher Michael Ringier (74) says: “I’m proud that we were able to win over such a renowned contemporary artist as Nicole Eisenman, whose work has had tremendous power, for the Ringier Art Annual Report.” It’s not just numbers that are true.
