Eight Airbus A220 Swiss are currently on the ground. This is unintentionally because, as the aviation portal aerotelegraph.com writes, they have problems with the engines. The airline has a total of 30 A220 aircraft. So the loss is significant. Especially since some planes have been unavailable since last fall.
The reason lies in the aerospace engineering company Pratt & Whitney. Produces related engines. But for a long time there is a shortage of spare parts for them, which leads to huge delivery problems. As a result, there is little repair history for airlines with Airbus A220s in their fleet.
Will this cause problems on a busy flight schedule? “We basically anticipated the engine bottlenecks and adjusted the flight schedule accordingly at an early stage, so we do not expect any short-term adjustments at this time,” a Swiss spokesperson said.
Swiss is switching to machines from wet charter partners Helvetic Airways and Air Baltic. “They help us ensure our passengers operate reliably even in this harsh environment,” the spokesperson said. It is unclear how long the unfortunate situation will continue. We continue to monitor the situation closely. (be)
