If the employment indicator, calculated by the ETH economic research center KOF, is still rising at the beginning of 2023, it fell from 14.4 points to 13.1 in the second quarter of 2023, according to the statement. Wednesday.
There is still a clear majority surveyed of companies looking to increase their employment in the next three months. Overall, the indicator is still above its long-term average of 1.0 and also above the level before the Corona crisis.
The KOF employment indicator is calculated from KOF’s quarterly economic surveys, and about 4,500 companies are asked about their employment plans and expectations for April.
According to KOF, the good labor market situation was reflected in almost all sectors. It is true that various sector indicators such as the construction sector, retail trade, wholesale trade, accommodation and project design recorded slight decreases from their high levels last year.
All indicators, except for the manufacturing sector, are well above the long-term averages. The employment indicator in the manufacturing sector continued its negative trend and is now not just below zero for the first time.
