Wine for 55,000 francs, cigars for 15,500 francs, scented candles and room fragrances for 31,200 francs: at the Zurich Homeowners Association Gastro Zurich, former managers are said to have stockpiled luxury goods for private use at the association’s expense.
“Tages-Anzeiger” concluded that an audit report had enriched Gastro Zurich’s former managing director and two executive employees. A total of about 443,000 francs, which the defendants are said to have written on expenses that, according to the report, are “non-business, partly clearly private expenses.”
Most of the editions are from the years 2020 and 2021 – precisely the years when the food industry has been drastically damaged by the consequences of the corona pandemic.
In addition to wine, cigars and scented candles, specially designed dresses, wedding gowns, baby dresses, smartphones, tablets and laptops are also on the list of purchases that are considered to be bought for private purposes, not for business purposes.
According to the audit report, there were no internal control mechanisms, so it was easy to enrich yourself, “Tages-Anzeiger” continues.
The report states that the accused former boss denied the allegations in a letter to Gastro Zurich delegates. He suspects individual board members are running a campaign of revenge against him.
The association is filing a criminal complaint against its former general manager on suspicion of dishonest management and embezzlement. (sfa)
