As the German rail and transport union EVG explained, between 3 am and 11 am on Friday morning, employees at all German railway companies where negotiations are being held want to stop working.
However, Deutsche Bahn’s (DB) long-distance traffic is likely to come to a standstill during the day as trains cannot depart in the morning. DB Group HR Director Martin Seiler said the day is “more or less over” in long-distance traffic. “Anyone who can reschedule should do it.”
SBB warned in a message on Thursday afternoon that there would be delays and cancellations even after 1 PM. Regional and local transport will also be greatly affected throughout Germany and will be stopped in some parts. For cross-border traffic, SBB uses substitute trains in its Swiss section. Seats are limited.
The SBB online calendar cannot be changed due to short notice.
The Swiss airline experienced numerous cancellations due to business shutdowns at three airports in Germany, Cologne/Bonn, Düsseldorf and Hamburg. Four flights from Hamburg to Zurich, three flights from Stuttgart to Zurich and two return flights between Zurich and Düsseldorf were canceled on Thursday, Switzerland announced at the request of Keystone-SDA.
Five flights from Hamburg to Zurich and one from Hamburg to Geneva will be canceled on Friday. Three flights from Stuttgart to Zurich and two return flights between Zurich and Düsseldorf will also be cancelled.
