Analysts had expected a less serious decline. Nokia justified the development with increased operating costs. But CEO Pekka Lundmark stuck to its annual targets on Thursday.
The executive is still targeting sales of 24.6 billion to 26.2 billion euros. Comparable operating margin is expected to reach 11.5 to 14 percent, although it fell to 8.2 percent in the first quarter. For the full year 2022, Nokia had achieved a 12.5 percent margin.
As a result, Nokia earned less on a comparable basis in the first quarter: the surplus fell to 342 million euros, from 416 million in the same period last year. The group justified this decline not only with the burdens of continuing business, but also with increased taxes.
