Organic is really good business. Especially for farmers. he thought. Because in reality, the big distributors are the top earners. This is the conclusion reached by the consumer magazine “Saldo”. He could access the lists of purchase prices paid by Migros and Koop for packaged organic vegetables.
Large distributors’ surcharges are harsh: According to the report, customers at Migros and Coop have to pay 50 to 90 percent more than the purchase price. A big margin! In some cases almost twice the purchase cost.
Specifically: According to “Saldo”, Migros purchased organic leeks in mid-March for 4.50 francs per kilo. On the screen, however, the leek was marked at 7.40 francs. And in Coop? A kilo of organic parsnips costs 9 francs. But the wholesaler bought a kilo for only 4.40 francs.
Compared to “Saldo”, Coop “did not want to confirm” purchase prices. Migros says, “These numbers miss the truth.” Margins for organic produce are no higher than for vegetables from conventional farming. (be)
