Crans-Montana VS extended the winter season by one month.

This year’s Easter holiday is also a minor resurgence for some ski areas: After winter started with little snow and lots of technical snow, skiers can now enjoy excellent spring conditions in the high mountain areas. Crans-Montana VS mountain railways therefore extended the winter season by one month.

Instead of April 16 as scheduled, the Crans-Montana mountain railways are now open until May 15. “We are delighted to be able to extend the winter season with ideal snow conditions for ski and cross-country skiers,” says Blick CEO Bertrand Cassignol. The end of season had already been delayed in the previous two years. “Successfully,” as the mountain railroad boss said. Apart from freestyle guests and professional ski groups, guests especially from the region could be relied upon.

Destination well booked

Should conditions deteriorate significantly over the next few weeks, the railways reserve the right to reschedule the end of the season. But at the moment it does not seem so: Friday again brought fresh snow.

The destination is well booked for Easter, the tourism office media spokesperson told Blick. The week-long Caprices Festival in Crans-Montana also starts this Friday, and there is always a large number of guests in town.

“More snow than usual all winter”

Berno Stoffel, 52, director of Swiss cable cars, says mountain railways that are still open can expect “very nice Easter days”. “At higher altitudes, there is more snow than usual all winter. Guests are currently enjoying the best natural snow tracks,” he adds.

In other regions, such as the Aletsch-Arena VS, Arosa Lenzerheide GR, Saas-Fee VS, Flims Laax Falera GR, Grindelwald Wengen BE, Verbier VS or Davos Klosters GR, the winter season also continues until mid-April or longer. The end of April ends in the Jungfrau ski region BE. At Andermatt UR or Zermatt VS, the season lasts until 1 May, but skiing is possible in Zermatt all year round. Engelberg Titlis OW, Engstligenalp Adelboden BE and St. Diavolezza near Moritz GR offers fun on the slopes until 7 May.

bumpy season

Numerous other ski areas are also open during the Easter holidays. If you want to take advantage of the current conditions, you can find the season times on the home page of the respective mountain trains.

The current winter season will be remembered for many lifts with ups and downs: “Despite good snow conditions, the second half of March was probably the worst phase of the whole winter,” says Berno Stoffel. Bad weather was to blame. There is another opportunity to improve seasonal figures at Easter.
