Many Swiss enjoy four or five days off at Easter. This requires a short vacation. Many need not be said twice: They get in the car to enjoy their days away from home and are often stuck in the notorious Easter traffic.

Among the most popular domestic destinations are Lugano TI, Zermatt VS and Crans-Montana VS. However, Swiss women also spend their free time for a city trip via Zurich, Geneva or Basel.

Surprisingly, Kloten ZH took 10th place. After all, there are many planes that can be admired from the observation deck at Zurich Airport. However, the Swiss are also drawn abroad at Easter. City trips are particularly popular here: Paris, Milan, London or Rome.

Along with Tokyo, there is only one city outside of Europe that has made it into the top 10 travel destinations during Easter. The flight from Zurich to Tokyo takes more than 14 hours. This makes the destination not a typical travel destination for short-haul travelers.
In some cantons, such as the canton of Aargau, the spring holidays also begin with Easter. Therefore, the Easter traffic jam on the journey home on Monday should be less severe than on the journey out on Maundy Thursday.
As the online portal abouttravel.ch writes, tour operators are happy with the Easter business. In some cases, such as DER Touristik Suisse, the pre-Corona level has already been exceeded. With other providers such as Tui Suisse, the number of bookings is still slightly below the 2019 level.
