With the TGV Lyria, the Swiss can get to Paris quickly.

Anticipation is known as the greatest joy! No wonder so many Swiss are booking summer vacations these days. Where is it going? Blick has the overview.

City holidays are very popular in Tui. Hamburg and London are particularly in demand, as indicated on request. Then a city tour of Lisbon, Malaga and classic Barcelona. But other cities are also in demand. “The clear favorites of our guests this summer are the seaside cities, where you can experience many cultures and relax on the beach,” says Philipp von Czapiewski, Managing Director of Tui Suisse. «The most popular city by the sea is Lisbon. But other cities like Barcelona, Porto and Amsterdam are also coming back. They are very close to pre-pandemic levels.”

Crete, Cyprus and Mallorca

The most popular summer travel destinations for Migros subsidiary Hotelplan are Djerba in Crete, Cyprus, Mallorca, Turkey, Egypt and Tunisia. What about city holidays? “Lisbon, Hamburg, Stockholm, London and Oslo,” a Blick spokesperson says.

DER Touristik Suisse is fully train connected with Railtour. «From Wädenswil to Lake Zurich to Genoa. Or from Olten to Kiel on the Baltic Sea? This was quickly booked,” says Blick. Cities easily reachable by train such as Paris, Vienna and Munich, and Italian cities such as Milan, Venice and Rome are particularly popular. “But small cities away from mass tourism such as Lyon, Salzburg, Dresden, Bologna or Verona are also being rediscovered by customers,” the spokesperson says.

Trains are getting faster

The railway is not only sustainable. “Trains are getting faster and more comfortable, and above all, there are more and more direct connections from Switzerland without changing trains.” For example, from Zurich you can go directly to Bologna, Venice, Graz or Kiel on the Baltic Sea. In summer there is also a direct TGV connection from Geneva to Marseille. “But night trains are very popular with customers, as are the new direct link to Dresden,” he says.
