Specifically, a total of 261,477 jobs were vacant in Switzerland in the first quarter of 2023 as of February 15, according to human resources firm x28. Compared to the fourth quarter of 2022, the number of open positions decreased by approximately 2,500 people.

In terms of individual professions, there is still a special need for nurses. The number of vacancies in this field is estimated at 6884 positions x28. In second place are 5915 vacancies for electricians. Then follow a little bit of sales with 3676 vacancies and carpentry with 3556 unfilled jobs.

Looking at the individual cantons, most of the jobs are in the canton of Zurich (57,067), followed by the canton of Bern (41,244). In the first quarter of 2023, the least vacancies were seen in the cantons of Uri (791) and Appenzell Innerrhoden (382).
