In February 2023, Swiss retailers recorded a notably 3.4 percent nominal increase in their sales compared to the previous year. It rose 1.8 percent in seasonally adjusted nominal terms compared to January, according to provisional results from the Federal Statistics Office (FSO).
Even taking into account inflation, retail sales rose 0.3 percent year-on-year in real terms in February, as BFS announced on Friday.
Excluding gas stations, which were affected by the fluctuation in oil prices, retail trade, adjusted for sales and public holiday effects, recorded a 3.4 percent increase in nominal sales in February compared to the previous year. Here, too, there was a slight increase of 0.2 percent in real terms. Real sales in the non-food sector increased by 2.5 percent.
