Apple employees fear a major fiasco

Enthusiasm gave way to skepticism. Former employees who commented on the “New York Times” anonymously are not very happy with the new interactive glasses Apple wants to launch this year.

The launch of the headset, which allows both augmented and virtual reality experiences, is planned to be held in June. It has been worked on for five years. The hope was that glasses would become Apple’s next big “disruptive” gadget.

However, there are major concerns that Apple could be as successful as the iPhone or Macbook. Because the suggested price of $3000 is too high. Because there are doubts about the usefulness of the device. And because there is no mature market for it yet.

Employees themselves do not quite believe it

Headphones early? Right now everything is talking about artificial intelligence, virtual and augmented reality. But many consumers are still largely unfamiliar with these terms, or rather: their use in everyday life is not yet clear.

Apple boss Tim Cook, 62, says that in the near future one will ask oneself how one can live without augmented reality. Just like now people are asking how they can live without internet. But the road to this feeling is long.

So far, there have only been disappointments and failures with VR headsets. Who remembers Google Glass? Who installed Microsoft’s HoloLens or Metas Quest Pro? The second company dropped the price of this headset from $1500 to $1,000 due to poor sales.

Even Apple experts doubt whether Apple can outperform the competition with its expensive product that seems to be made for professionals rather than traditional consumers. This is remarkable given that Apple employees often treat the company and its products like their own family.

Market research firm Counterpoint Research expects Apple to sell only 500,000 headphones in the first year. For comparison: Apple sells 200 million iPhones and 40 million Apple Watches a year.
