Credit Suisse moves from Zurich skyscraper icon

The Zurich Main Tower is the proud name of the skyscrapers that still rise above the thriving Oerlikon district of Zurich. The major bank Credit Suisse has been one of the main tenants here since 2009, and some buildings have the bank’s logo. But this will end soon.

CS is giving up its prestigious position. Credit Suisse confirmed to Blick that the lease was terminated at the end of July 2024, in a report by financial portal Inside Paradeplatz.

Reason: the bank needs to save. Or, as CS puts it: “Credit Suisse is constantly reviewing its real estate portfolio. In doing so, it aims to make efficient use of workplace resources and financial opportunities.» For the nearly 1,000 employees at Oerlikon, this means: restraint.

Requires less office

To where? Next to the road traffic office at the foot of Uetliberg. “We are trying to improve capacity utilization in our other buildings, especially in Uetlihof, where we have long-term rentals,” the bank writes.

CS doesn’t just want to save money, big companies are planning less office space in the future. Because since Corona and the spread of the home office, the need for fixed jobs has decreased significantly.

It is a matter of curiosity what will happen to the empty office space. Because unlike apartments, offices are nothing but a meager supply.

The Main Towers are owned by the Zurich Civil Servants Insurance Fund BVK. This now has to find new tenants – or it can transform offices. Meanwhile, the area, which was overshadowed by high-rise buildings, has turned into an attractive residential area.
