7 near misses in just 2 months in the USA

class=”sc-97fd9fa8-0 jNFKxv”>

This series is frightening and the sudden accumulation raises question marks. Like this: How safe is it still to fly in the USA? Billy Nolen, the head of the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), tried to calm down at a Senate hearing: “I can tell the American people we’re safe. But can we be better? Absolutely!”

Since the beginning of the year, there have been seven (!) near misses at airports in the USA. Fortunately nothing happened. But experts are frightened by the accumulation.

In mid-February, the FAA said it would “explore the structure, culture, processes, systems, and integration of U.S. aviation security efforts.” And he wants to decide soon whether additional measures are necessary.

30 meters was lost to the disaster

The aviation magazine “AeroTelegraph” listed the events one by one. A Boeing 737 and a vehicle were involved at Santa Barbara and Baltimore airports. In Santa Barbara, for example, on January 7, air traffic control authorized a Boeing 737 to land on runway 7. At the same time, a vehicle was there on the inspection trip. The pilots took off at the last minute. He was missing 30 to 60 meters until the disaster.

Or at New York’s JFK Airport: At the end of February, at the most sensitive moment, the distance between the two planes was just 462 meters. A Delta Air Lines Boeing 737-900 had just begun its takeoff flight. An American Airlines Boeing 777-200 rolled off the runway. At the last moment, the control tower instructed the crew of the Delta plane to abort the take-off.

Aircraft collisions are extremely rare. But when they do, the consequences are dire. The disaster in Tenerife (Spain) in 1977 will not be forgotten, two large passenger planes collided – 583 people died. The accident is one of the most serious accidents in civil aviation to date. (NO)
