Swiss Federal Railways (SBB) and French transport group Alstom draw a line under the supposedly endless myth surrounding Dosto trains.
In 2010, SBB placed the first order for 59 FV-Dosto trains from the Canadian company Bombardier. Trains were initially quite unreliable. As early as 2014, SBB received three more trains from Bombardier for free as part of a new delivery plan. From 2018 Dosto drove with passengers, some problems persisted. In 2021, Alstom took over the FV-Dosto project from Bombardier after the merger of the two train divisions. Therefore, Alstom is now paying renewed compensation for the delayed delivery of the Dosto fleet.
SBB reports that the new compensation is equivalent to six PV Dosto trains. In this way, Alstom will guarantee the maintenance of the trains beyond the contractually agreed period. This includes the delivery of spare parts that will be needed in the coming years. In addition, Alstom will invest in further optimization of ride comfort and support the training of SBB staff.
The cooperation remains unchanged, the train is constantly being optimized. According to SBB, Dosto is already one of the most reliable SBB fleets and is the backbone of long-distance traffic in Switzerland. Today, trains travel between 15,000 and 20,000 kilometers between two hitches. This is above average for the rest of the SBB passenger transport fleet. In terms of train cancellations, the level of the existing fleet has been reached. (SDA/rae)
