Manager slept in office – fired anyway

Crawford was one of the last Twitter 1.0 executives allowed to continue working on Musk’s self-proclaimed hardcore Twitter.

But apparently even sleeping in the office wasn’t tough enough for Elon Musk, one of the most prominent victims of the latest wave of Twitter terminations on Saturday night. About 200 people had to leave. As a result, the number of employees at the social media company fell from 7,500 to just under 2,000 within months.

Described as Musk’s sycophant

Zoe Schiffer of Platformer.news first reported on the latest wave of layoffs. On Monday morning, mother-of-three Crawford confirmed the news: “The worst possible conclusion to be drawn from my dedication to Twitter 2.0 is that my optimism or hard work was a mistake,” she writes.

And he addressed his critics with these words: “Those who make fun of me and make fun of me are destined to be on the sidelines, not in the arena. I am deeply proud of the team that has overcome so much noise and chaos.”

Because many in the tech world called Crawford a sycophant. Someone who just supports Elon Musk’s rough route to a career.

His dismissal took everyone by surprise. The famous business newspaper “Financial Times” dedicated a portrait to Crawford. Caption: “The Rise of Esther Crawford on Elon Musk’s Hardcore Twitter.”

In the article, he is described as a kind of “interpreter” between Musk and Twitter management. He knew things were going wrong at the company and wrote: “Twitter no longer has holy cows in the product space. Elon is willing to try many things; many will fail, some will succeed.”

For example, under Crawford, the new controversial Twitter Blue service was announced and the blue tick was available for $8 a month, including the chaos at login.

The current version is another chapter in Crawford’s turbulent life story. In April 2022, he publicly announced that he was a Christian until his teenage years: “I grew up in a denomination. We had many rules (no haircut, no makeup, no pants, no television, no secular music etc.) and hierarchical leadership. We believed in the End Times, so I lived in constant fear of doing something wrong and being left behind. When I was 19, I went out on my own.”

His critics now ridicule the fact that Crawford has moved from one cult to another.
