Granini stops ads with “CO2 neutral” logo

As Foodwatch announced on Friday, the company has issued a corresponding notice of termination to the organization to avoid litigation. However, Granini reserves the right to distribute all existing packaging with a stamp until the end of July to avoid having to be destroyed.

In its warning, Foodwatch accused Granini of using environmental projects to offset only a fraction of the greenhouse gas emissions produced during juice production, or just 6.9 percent. The advertisement is therefore a self-designed logo printed on the packaging of juices, nectars or juice drinks.

In the cease and desist statement, Granini pointed out that in August last year it decided to “stop reporting that its products are CO2/climate neutral”. Still, the company will continue to strive for climate neutrality in the future, where emissions are offset by transparent climate projects.

Foodwatch welcomed the ceasefire declaration. There are many other products advertised with “misleading climate and environmental promises” in supermarkets. Foodwatch “cannot warn every single consumer scam”. Instead, the organization demanded that the federal government in Brussels should advocate a legal ban on misleading food-related climate advertisements. (SDA)
