New Year’s Eve temperatures are almost 20 degrees and there is not a bit of snow at Christmas. But now winter is finally coming. According to the weather report, it will snow up to 500 meters above sea level this Sunday. This news has been a great relief for many ski resorts. With incredible effort and dedication, they’ve been working on their slopes for weeks – just watching them melt away in an instant.
With low-lying snowfall and cooler temperatures announced from mid- next week, many smaller ski resorts need to be on the mountain for now. This is also demonstrated by Blick research. Because this weekend, some ski areas are finally starting the 2022/23 ski season:
Bergün – Filisur / Darlux GR
In fact, the official start of the season in Bergün – Filisur/Darlux would be on 17 December. But as in many places there was no snow. Now the Darlux ski area can finally open on Saturday, January 14th. All ski slopes above the place called «Snowhill» will be open. The cross-country ski slope in Bergün, the Tèct chairlift and the children’s area are also open. The Zinols chairlift is closed due to snow conditions.
Splugen Tambo GR
In the statement made on the ski center’s website, it was said, “We would like to inform you that we can reopen our valley slope on Saturday, January 14, thanks to the heavy snowfall and devoted work of our employees.” From Saturday, two gondolas, a chair lift and a tow truck will be available to skiers. This allows for skiing on a total of six slopes, including valley run.
Amden Turkey
The small ski area above Lake Walen had to halt activities until Sunday to protect the slopes and a small amount of snow. But thanks to the snowfall and slightly cooler temperatures, you can reopen on January 14. But for the first time only one lift and one incline. “But we are confident that there will be more snow next week and that we can gradually open more tracks until the sports holidays,” says an employee of Sportbahnen Amden AG.
Observe the GR
You can also ski again on the quiet Avers in Graubünden from this weekend. As of Saturday, the children’s lift will be opened as the first step. From Monday, adult ski enthusiasts will also get their money’s worth again. Then the Cawetta chairlift will be put into service again. From February, you can go night skiing there again.
Jeizinen – Feselalpe VS
The Jeizinen – Feselalpe ski area in Valais is open today, from Friday. During the week, the ski area was closed due to the high temperatures and few visitors. But now four of the five lifts on the mountain have reopened and invite you to ski and snowboard. Mountain railways are positive that operations can now remain open permanently and all slopes will be gradually opened to traffic.
Goms / Obergoms VS
In Goms/Obergoms you can finally reach the slopes. As of this week, two of the four chairlifts have been opened. One of the two toboggan runs and numerous cross-country ski runs and winter hiking trails are also open. Even the night road between Ulrichen and Obergesteln is passable and illuminated. The amusement park is closed for ski and snowboard freestyle athletes.
Rothwald – Wasenalp am Simplon VS:
Here, too, the shortened season begins on January 14. From then on a lift and 10km of slopes are open. Another cable car opens on Sunday, and then a total of 20 of the 25 kilometers of pistes are opened to skiers. At the moment, there is more than 60 cm of snow on the mountain, and the gastronomy invites you to dine on the slopes.
Sports lifts Eischoll VS:
You had to wait a long time. But now you can finally start your ski season on the Eischoll sports cable cars in Valais. As of January 14, chairlifts, chairlifts and children’s chairlifts will be at the service of little ski enthusiasts. The valley to the village and the connection to Unterbäch are open. There are still restrictions on the upper reaches because not all slopes can be groomed there due to the wind. Unfortunately, night skiing is also not possible this weekend.
Earlier in the week, it announced a number of other ski areas will open for this weekend. You can read what they are here.
