An Indian executive was arrested for peeing on an airplane. A police spokesperson in Delhi told AFP news agency on Saturday that Shankar Mishra had peed on an elderly passenger, 72, during a transatlantic flight.
According to investigators, the defendant initially went into hiding, but was located in the city of Bangalore due to his lively online activities and credit card payments, according to media reports. He was taken to the capital, New Delhi, where police are currently investigating the allegations. A 72-year-old passenger wrote to Air India complaining that Mishra, who appeared to be drunk on a flight from New York to New Delhi in late November, had peed on him. Air India later contacted the police.
Air India admitted its mistakes
A letter originally circulated through a lawyer said that Mishra had already settled the matter with the woman concerned and paid for her clothes and luggage to be cleaned. His previous employer, US bank Wells Fargo, had already fired the manager on Friday after “deeply disturbing” allegations emerged.
Air India admitted on Saturday it “couldn’t have handled the incident better” and is reviewing its in-flight alcohol service policy. The airline was heavily criticized for inappropriately handling the woman’s complaint, including failing to report the incident in a timely manner. (AFP)
