Overall, November exports totaled 20.92 billion francs, as the Federal Customs and Border Security Agency (BAZG) announced on Tuesday. Thus, exports decreased by 9.2 percent in seasonally adjusted terms compared to the previous month. In real terms – that is, adjusted for price changes – the result was a more moderate minus 2.8 percent. In October, exports had already fallen, albeit much less.
The current decline in exports is the second largest decline this year. At the same time, exports fell to January 2022, according to BAZG. The decline, which was decisive for the overall development, came from chemical-pharmaceutical products, whose exports fell by almost a fifth in a month.
Imports, on the other hand, increased by 1.4 percent to 20.42 billion in October (real: -0.6%).
As a result, the trade surplus fell to almost half a billion francs, after 2.98 billion in the previous month. As a reminder: in February Switzerland had a record value of 5.5 billion for this key figure.
