Specifically, there were 4,349 bankruptcies, according to Friday’s announcement. As before, the increase in bankruptcies was particularly strong in Zurich (+38%), followed by Central Switzerland (+25%). With only a 10 percent increase in bankruptcies, eastern Switzerland is still the best, while bankruptcies in northwest Switzerland increased by 11 percent.
Experts have noticed that the risk of bankruptcy of certain industries has increased substantially. The risk for companies in the wood and furniture industry is 4.4 times the Swiss average across all sectors. In craft businesses the risk is 3.3 times higher, while in the hospitality industry the factor is 2.7.
At the same time as the sharp increase in bankruptcies, the number of new businesses fell a small 1 percent to 45,069 in November. 3 percent more new companies were established in Zurich alone. But there are also booming industries, such as the real estate industry and companies that produce durable goods.
According to the assessment made by Creditreform, the participation rate increased by 33 percent in the first 11 months.
