Football enthusiasm knows no bounds in Croatia. Last Friday, the Croatians knocked out World Cup favorites Brazil, thus qualifying for the second consecutive World Cup semi-finals.
This should raise fans’ interest in the Croatian national team’s striking red and white checkered jerseys. Such jerseys are also available from Migros’ subsidiary SportXX. But Croatian fans in Switzerland, including a Blick reader, recently rubbed their eyes in surprise on the SportXX website. The product description there reads: “Support the Serbian national team in true fan style with our home jersey. This beautiful jersey features an all-over print that represents traditional Serbian culture.»
Migros blames copy-paste errors
Does SportXX need geography lessons? Tough. Copy paste error? All other World Cup participants’ jerseys are correctly identified. Frustrated Serbian SportXX employee making jokes? As it is known, Serbia was eliminated from the tournament in the group stage where Switzerland was the rival.
The confusion is particularly deceptive: the wounds of the 1991-1995 war between Croatia and Serbia have not yet fully healed.
When asked by Blick, Migros spokesperson Marcel Schlatter said, “Actually, it’s a copy-paste error. This will be set. Sportingly, there is no reason why Croatian fans should switch to Serbian colours.”
