We all know them and many love them too: emojis. Instead of a “LOL” as before, a smiley face with teardrops is sent. A kissing mouth emoji instead of a “XOXO”.
But that’s not all: As of today, there is a new function in Whatsapp, as the Facebook brother announced on his blog. This allows you to create your own avatars, i.e. a digital version of yourself. Instead of an emoji, you send your avatar in the appropriate mode. After the update, the new function can be found under pseudo-tags.
There are almost no limits when creating avatars. When it comes to skin, hair and eye color, as well as body and clothing, Whatsapp users can choose from a multitude of variants. You can also choose individual facial features such as the shape of the eyes or lips and the right nose.
With wrinkles, piercings and beauty marks
If you want, you can even give your avatar a certain wisdom with wrinkles. However, if you have the opportunity, you can choose not to do this. Users can also beautify their avatars with piercings, freckles and even bindi. This is the point between the eyebrows that is considered a religious forehead in Hinduism. Avatars can also wear glasses and hearing aids.
Whatsapp then automatically creates 36 stickers with your own avatar that reflect many different emotions and actions: glowing down both cheeks, mourning death, swearing, and even eyes with big hearts.
But the concept of avatars is not new. Apple introduced the Memoji feature in 2018. Samsung already has a 3D avatar. And Facebook’s sister company Instagram, or instant messaging service Snapchat, already offers its own variants of avatars.
