Confused customers stand at post office counter with QR invoices

Seniors in particular were skeptical about the transition to the new QR bill on October 1. Apparently, it’s not entirely wrong. While digital natives, banks, and those who manage their finances digitally benefit from simplification, things get more complex for older and less tech-savvy people.

You can continue to pay at the box office with QR payment receipts, but this requires additional work and even additional costs.

Boring use of scissors

People keep coming to the branch with QR invoices on their smartphones and want to pay for them, the post office told Blick. But that is not possible! If you want to pay a QR-invoice at the post office counter, it must be in printed form.

Swiss Post also recommends that customers pay their electronic QR invoice directly online. Otherwise, you’ll need to ask the issuer for a paper invoice (usually for an extra fee!) or print it out and bring it with you.

Here the next problem lurks. The old payment slips were perforated and you could easily pull the payment part off the bill. New QR invoices no longer have such holes, especially if you print them yourself. For this reason, either the customers themselves or the box office workers have to cut the payment parts manually with scissors.

Manual control despite QR code

Also, some customers who still pay with the classic yellow booklet complained that they now had to write a 21-digit IBAN to Swiss Post instead of a nine-digit account number.

Care should be taken when copying the IBAN and scanning QR invoices. Banks also recommend checking scanned invoices to make sure all entries are correct.
