Major improvement on a railway line important to tourism: From the timetable change, you can travel by train from Montreux on Lake Geneva to Interlaken in the Bernese Oberland without having to change trains. This is possible for the first time from 11 December.
Re-adjustable wagons allow for improvement. This means that trains in Zweisimmen BE can switch from narrow gauge to standard gauge and passengers no longer have to change trains, according to a statement from the Bernese construction and transport department on Tuesday.
In the coming winter there will be one connection per day in each direction, from June 2023 there will be four connections per day in each direction.
Regional Improvements
The timetable change also brings the quarter-hourly intervals of Regio-Express trains on the RBS line Bern – Solothurn and the extension of the S8 from Bätterkinden to BE. This ends today at Jegenstorf BE.
There will also be better train and bus connections on various other lines in the canton. The offer between Burgdorf, Konolfingen and Thun will be significantly expanded.
Entertainment traffic determines supply
The new direct connection from Biel BE to the Bernese Oberland and improved access from Beatenberg is a response to the increasing demand for leisure travel since the Corona pandemic.
There are additional bus connections and route arrangements in various parts of the canton. Evening service between Bern Airport, Belp, Münsingen and Konolfingen, service between Wabern and Niedermuhlern and Lyssach and Fraubrunnen will be improved. (SDA)
