As Swisskills announced on Sunday, the young professionals have won five gold and silver medals and nine bronze medals. At the end of the decentralized Worldskills Competition 2022, mason Ben Zaugg from Bern became the world mason champion in Salzburg. Berne electrician Patrik Siegenthaler, St. Gallen agricultural machinery mechanic Pascal Hofstetter and mooring electrician Yannick Flepp from Graubünden won bronze medals in Austria.
The Swissskills struck a positive balance in the quarterly world championships. More than 55 percent of the Swiss teams managed to reach the podium. Only delegations from China and South Korea can show a better medal quota. In addition to the podium places, there were twelve “Medals of Excellence” for the Swiss.
Since September, 62 world skill championships have been held at the Worldskills Competition in 15 countries. The Swiss national team competed with 37 young professionals in 34 disciplines.
This year’s World Skills Championship was supposed to be held in Shanghai in October. However, due to the pandemic situation there, these were canceled at the end of May and were instead conducted in a decentralized manner. 14 competitions were held in Switzerland. (SDA)
