The British have thrown away the annoying 100ml rule for flights!

Many travelers breathe a sigh of relief! According to the media, British airports want to remove the rules on the amount of liquid in hand luggage in the next two years. As reported by the BBC, the British government plans to launch new 3D scanners by mid-2024 that will allow security forces to see passengers’ pockets more clearly.

It was stated that passengers can leave unlimited liquids, laptops and tablets in their luggage. According to the Times newspaper, the measure is intended to significantly reduce queues at security checks.

Attack blocked

Since November 2006, air passengers are only allowed to take liquids in hand luggage in containers with a maximum capacity of 100 milliliters. It should be placed in a transparent bag with a maximum capacity of one liter and should be shown separately at the control. Laptops and tablets should also be removed from backpacks and bags. The measure came into effect after a plan to attack the planes with explosives hidden in beverage bottles was foiled.

“We have just started expanding the security area in Terminal 3, which will have more CT scanners,” John Holland-Kaye, chief of the UK’s largest airport, London Heathrow, told the Times. The Ministry of Transport has set a deadline of mid-2024. Then it will be normal for passengers to have liquids in their pockets.

Biggest reason for delay

According to the report, passengers not removing items from their hand luggage or carrying more liquids than allowed are the biggest causes of airport security delays.

A test drive started at Heathrow in 2017. The UK government originally planned to launch 3D scanners by 1 December 2022. Due to the pandemic, the delivery date has been postponed. (pbe/SDA)
